Losing a child suddenly and unexpectedly is a harrowing experience, and one that is sadly still a reality for a number of families in England every year. As part of our mission to understand how and why every child death in England occurs, the NCMD is due to publish its fourth thematic report, on children who die suddenly and unexpectedly, on December 8 2022.
We know that there is a link between sudden, unexpected deaths and sleep in children, and in this free webinar Professor of Infant Health & Developmental Physiology at the University of Bristol Peter Fleming will give an update on current research in this area. This will include an overview of sudden infant death syndrome, safe sleeping guidance, whether and when co-sleeping should be considered a modifiable factor in a child’s death and what is known about the risks of co-sleeping in certain scenarios e.g. on a sofa or armchair. There will also be time for questions at the end of the session, and you can submit questions in advance by emailing ncmd-programme@bristol.ac.uk.
The session is free and open to all with free registration in advance. We also issue continuing professional development certificates following attendance, upon request – contact Charlotte McClymont at UCL Partners for more details.
