Data submission deadline for 2020 LSCB1 now passed

**Please continue to enter data as normal**

Please note that the deadline for submitting data to be included in NCMD’s annual report (LSCB1) has now passed. Please continue to enter data as usual – find below details of the 2020 schedule (published before 20 April)…

Below is a summary of the key points to note:

  • Data should be submitted up to 20 April 2020 (extension to allow for circumstances such as late notifications etc)
  • The formal deadline for submitting data to NCMD is 31 March 2020 but data can still be submitted up to 20 April
  • Data added after 20 April 2020 will NOT be included in this year’s report
  • Data must be submitted for ALL child deaths regardless of when they occurred (including deaths before 1 April 2019)
  • For deaths reviewed between 1 April 2019 and 31 March 2020, please complete both Notification and Reporting forms as well as Supplementary Reporting and Analysis forms.
  • You only need to complete a Notification form for deaths not yet reviewed as at 31 March 2020.

The deadline – more detail

Please note the following deadlines in relation to the annual LSCB1 return (now submitted to the Dept of Health by NCMD on behalf of all CDOPs):

31 March 2020

Data must be submitted by CDOPs to NCMD for ALL child deaths regardless of when they occurred, including:

 ·       A completed Notification form for deaths not yet reviewed as at 31 March 2020 (this includes those who died before 1 April 2019), and

·       Completed Notification, Reporting, Supplementary Reporting and Analysis forms for deaths reviewed between 1 April 2019 and 31 March 2020 (this also includes those who died before 1 April 2019).

↓ (note that Easter falls over this period)

20 April 2020

(extension)

Data can still be submitted up to this date.

NOTE: Data added after 20 April 2020 will NOT be included in this year’s report (data relating to deaths between 1 April 2019 and 31 March 2020 should still be added after this date but will not be included in this year’s published report).

NB Of course, data relating to deaths occurring from 1 April 2020 should still be added after this date.

The NCMD annual report containing data relating to child deaths up and including 31 March 2020 will be available at the end of 2020.

CDOPs, please remember – the more complete the data you submit to NCMD, the more insightful the annual report will be. This will be valuable both nationally and locally for your CDOP (for benchmarking purposes).

With this in mind, we request that you check that notification forms contain all necessary details (including all demographics) and that cases reviewed by 31 March 2020 have been finalised and marked complete. It is also essential that ALL cases have an option selected for the following questions:

  • Was the child known to children’s social care?
  • Is the child’s death subject to a Serious Case Review (now Child Safeguarding Practice Review)?

Issues meeting the deadline?

Note that it is a statutory requirement for CDOPs to provide an LSCB1 return to the Department of Health, but this can only be achieved by submitting data to NCMD. Therefore, please email us as soon as possible if you foresee issues with submitting your cases by the deadline (please also advise your CDR Partners if this is the case). We should then be able to support you by discussing any issues you face locally as well as a plan for data completion.
