In this NCMD webinar Dr Bryony Kendall, Liverpool GP and a safeguarding lead for NHS Cheshire and Merseyside, will speak about the experiences of asylum seekers with a particular focus on childbirth in the asylum system including a personal story of neonatal death.

The session will include extracts from the film When You Know…Childbirth in the asylum system. Highlighting stark, personal testimonies of five women with lived experience of navigating maternity care while living under asylum restrictions. Some of the women featured in this film will be attending the session.

Local organisations such as the Milk Bank at Chester, Alder Centre and Claire House Hospice will also be in attendance to explain how they have changed their practice as a result of watching this film. A researcher into maternal health inequalities involved with the film, Pip McKnight, will explain the importance of capturing data relating to asylum status in children who die.

The presentation will be followed by a question and answer session, and you can also submit questions in advance by emailing NCMD-programme@bristol.ac.uk.
