EDI Lead
Naz Khan is a Registered Genetic Counsellor, Registered Nurse, and Health Visitor with over 30 years’ experience in the NHS. She holds a national clinical leadership role and leads on improving equity of access to genomic services for consanguineous families — an area she has championed since 2005.
Naz co-developed a culturally competent model of care for families affected by autosomal recessive conditions, published in BMJ Open (2019). She has led national training programmes, community engagement strategies, and workforce development initiatives that embed equity and inclusion into genomic care. Her work focuses on raising genetic literacy, empowering families, and building confidence among professionals to have meaningful conversations about genetics across health and community settings.
She holds an honorary appointment at the University of Manchester and is currently co-developing a bilingual (Urdu–English) mobile app to improve access to genetic information for families with low literacy or language barriers. Her work is shaped by a strong commitment to reducing health inequalities through inclusive, patient-centred care.
